What we do
Within the Department for Transport (DfT) a number of agencies have committed to the provision of information for the Driver, Vehicle and Operator. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) and Vehicle and Operators Services Agency (VOSA) form the driver, vehicle and operator agencies:
Driving Standards Agency
DSA's primary aim is to promote road safety through improving driving standards.[This information is held on an external site].
Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency
DVLA's primary aims are to facilitate road safety and general law enforcement by maintaining registers of drivers and vehicles; and to collect taxation (VED).[This information is held on an external site].
Vehicle and Operator Services Agency
VOSA helps to improve road safety and environmental standards through a range of activities including: monitoring the MOT scheme; conducting lorry/bus annual tests; and, roadside checks.[This information is held on an external site].
Direct.Gov
The group also supplies information to the Motoring and Transport section of direct.gov. This Government portal holds all information for the private motorist in Great Britain.[This information is held on an external site].
